Background:

Technology exports and technology intensive exports are being increasingly recognised as important channels for enhancing the national exports and promoting technical cooperation at international levels. With the coming into being of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and alongwith it, strengthening of the Intellectual Property Regime, technology is being increasingly traded as a commodity by many nations.

India has a vast potential in terms of technological capabilities and is emerging as a focal point for various technologies especially in the fields of Indian System of Medicine, Light Engineering, Chemical and Pharmaceuticals, Food processing industry, software, Telecommunications, Microelectronics etc.

India has acquired a variety of technologies from diverse sources, in addition to making its own development over the years in industrial, agriculture and economic sectors. The experiences gained in the process of technology acquisition, absorption and adoption have strengthened further the enormous pool of manpower, sophisticated scientific and technological capabilities and vast industrial infrastructure which could be shared with other countries for mutual benefit.

Technology Export Development Organization (TEDO) is designed to be a flexible network based organization for providing information & promotion related services to industry, R & D institutes and others in the area of Technology Exports.
