Service Institutions

The six statutory commodity boards listed below perform functions similar to those of EPCs. Some addresses are given in Appendix I.
  • Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (lIFT). In addition to disseminating information to trade and Industry .lIFT organizes training programmes in foreign trade and undertakes functional studies and market surveys.

  • Export Credit and Guarantee Corporation of India, Ltd (ECGC). ECGC provides insurance cover to Indian exporters against the non-realization of export proceeds arising from commercial and political risks and offers guarantees to commercial banks against losses that these banks may suffer in granting credit to exporters.

  • Export-lmport Bank (EXIM Bank). With headquarters in Mumbai, EXIM Bank is the country's principal financial institution in the foreign trade sector. It coordinates the activities of institutions engaged in financing exports and imports

  • Export Inspection Council (EIC). Administers the quality control and pre-shipment Inspection schemes, provides inspection facilities, and issues certificates of origin under the Generalized System of Preferences(GSP).

  • Indian Institute of Packaging (lIP). IIP organizes training programmes on packaging technology to improve existing packaging standards. It provides testing facilities. undertakes research and offers consultancy services in specific areas of packaging

  • Indian Council of Arbitration. The Council helps exporters settle trade disputes deals with commercial arbitration, and provides arbitration facilities. It also disseminates information on arbitration laws and dispute settlement procedures.

  • Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO). Established by the Ministry of Commerce in 1965, FIEO is the registering authority for EH/TH/STH/SSTH. The Government of India has also appointed FIEO as the agency for receiving information on tenders and trade inquiries from Indian trade missions abroad and for making this information available to trade and industry in the country .It has bilateral arrangements for the exchange of information with several overseas chambers of commerce and trade and industry associations. It sponsors study teams and trade delegations. undertakes commodity and market surveys, and collects and disseminates market intelligence.

  • Trade representatives abroad. Trade specialists are located in Indian embassies and consulates abroad and provide a variety of services.
