Arnab Mallick
/ Kolkata/ Chinsurah February 28, 2006
Techno India group (TIG) has firmed up major expansion plans,
both within West Bengal and across the country, within 2008.
A knowledge management group, TIG will be opening four 'knowledge
cities' in Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai within July
2007, Satyam Roychowdhury, director of TIG, said.
"We will shortly be setting up integrated 'knowledge cities'
across four cities including Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and
Mumbai. We will be offering 'KG to PhD' courses from these centres,"
said Roychowdhury.
The total investment on the expansion project would be around
Rs 500 crore, with promoter's contribution being around Rs 200
crore, he added.
The group aimed to set up campuses in all districts of West
Bengal.
The group will be opening three more campuses in West Bengal
this year.
"TIG will be opening centres in Bolepur, Siliguri and Garia
this year. This would be followed by nine more campuses in 2007
including one each in Coochbihar, Kharagpur, Kalyani, Jalpaiguri
and Rajarhat," said Roychowdhury.
The Bolpur campus would focus upon agri-food biotechnology,
he noted.
The total investment would be around Rs 100 crore, he added.
TIG had at present 11 campuses in West Bengal.
TIG opened its eleventh campus in Chinsurah recently.
"This Rs 10 crore worth campus covers 3.5 acres and will
accommodate around 2000 students," said Roychowdhury.
The promoter's investment in the new campus was around Rs 6
crore.
This knowledge campus would comprise public schools from nursery
to secondary levels, an information technology school for BCA
and MCA courses, schools of paramedical sciences and a school
of international languages teaching English, French and German.
TIG aimed to implement the concept of vertically integrated
education from nursery to PhD level under one umbrella with
a vision to "create an enabling environment where technology
is used for the benefit of mankind".
The group launched this initiative of imparting education from
the ground level at Chinsura knowledge campus.
The campus will have a TIG public school, an IT school and school
of international languages.
This model will be replicated in all districts of West Bengal.
For the academic session 2006-07, knowledge campuses will become
operational at Garia, Chinsura and Siliguri.
TIG eventually aimed to establish a university of international
standards.
TIG's existing campuses were located at institutions like the
Netaji Subhash Engineering College, the Meghnad Saha Institute
of Technology, Asansol Engineering College, Siliguri Institute
of Technology, Techno India College of Technology, The Institute
of Computer Engineers (India), and the Techno India campus at
Hooghly.
TIG was one of the largest knowledge management groups in India
with presence in education services, academia and technology
services for industry in the field of science, technology, medicine
and management.
TIG was confident of opening schools in every district of Bengal
by end-2009.
