- Intel, Cray mull facility in India

After global telecom manufacturers, it is the turn of IT software
and hardware vendors to start looking at India as a manufacturing
and research and development (R&D) base station.
Two US-based chip-makers, Cray Inc and Intel Corp, are actively
considering setting up a manufacturing base in India, Science and
Technology Minister Kapil Sibal said on Thursday.
Even enterprise software maker, Cadence Inc, wants to expand its
existing operations in India, the minister said.

Samsung Electronics' LCD President and CEO Sang-Wan Lee predicted
a "third wave" of liquid-crystal displays that would propel
annual flat-panel LCD TV sales to 100 million by 2010 and yield
screen sizes exceeding 100 inches.

Philips 3D Solutions has announced it is working on a graphics chip
to drive flat displays to give three dimensional images on cell

Networking major Nortel today said that it is keen to invest more
and expand its presence in India through equity partnerships or
joint ventures for better competition and business.
"We would look at buying, having equity partnerships or joint
ventures with Indian companies in the field of e-governance,"
Nortel CEO Bill Owen said.
"We want to be here and expand more in India for good competition
and business", Owen said.
Commenting on the expansion plans for the company in India, Nortel
Managing Director Ashoka Valia said, "We are looking to expand
our offices in Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata and Chennai. We will also
help the growth of the business of our Nortel keen to invest more
in India suppliers."
He said the company was having discussions with various state governments
as well as educational institutions for installing technologies
that can help them do better.
